Knowledge Transfer

  • OGS Procurement Services Group, with 60% of its work force retirement eligible, has initiated regular training sessions aimed at transferring critical program knowledge to sustain service levels into the future. Shadowing

  • OGS establishes "shadow" positions (temporary duplicate items or project positions) to enable the successor to learn the job from the incumbent. [Dan Cunningham, Director of Human Resources Management, (518) 474-5995, dan.cunningham@ogs.state.ny.us]

  • Civil Service has identified several crucial positions where the long-term incumbents will be retiring in the near future. To ensure a smooth transition and the transfer of knowledge, the Department has established project positions to allow time for the successors to learn the jobs from the soon-to-be retirees.   • SED uses "shadow" positions for Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors title. Shadow positions are filled with new staff prior to current employees retiring, so that there is a transfer of knowledge and adequate training of the new counselors. [James Gerrity (518) 474-5215]
